Prasad

en. Naivedya is the sanctified food offering made to the deity as part of the service or pooja. Once the deity is assumed to have accepted the offering, the naivedya becomes a symbolic representation of the deity’s blessings and is called ‘prasad‘. Devotees then consume the prasad, symbolically taking in the blessings of the deity.

This offering ‘naivedya/prasad‘ can be in the form of sweets, fruit, dry fruits, a full meal or other food items.

In addition, Sadguru may also give prasad to a devotee in terms of coins or currency. In such cases, the monetary value of this currency is of virtually no importance compared to the spiritual blessings it carries.
