Serene Experience during Sadhana

Sadguru Mama had performed the Atirudra Swahakar Yajnya in the holy town of Shree Nrusimha Wadi near Kolhapur in Maharashtra, India. He had asked Digambar (name changed) and a few other sadhaks to attend the ceremony on the last day of the yajnya. “Come in early”, He said, “Start your Sadhana as soon as the first offerings are made, and you can get up after the last offerings are done.”

Digambar and the others happily obeyed. They sat in a hall near the yajnya and started their  sadhana after the first offerings were made to the sacred altar. Very shortly after starting sadhana,  Digambar lost track of his surroundings. During sadhana, he began to experience a beautiful sight.

A river flowed nearby, its calm waters sparkling in the sun. A gentle breeze blew the lush green grass that carpeted the banks. Golden-green leaves of mango, audumber, and other trees glistened in the sun. Peace prevailed in the surroundings and also in the heart of Digambar, who sat on the steps close to the river bank. Calm and with his heart full of joy, Digambar soaked in the beautiful surroundings.

Soon the stillness was broken by some movement in the water. Digambar noticed a cobra, hood raised above the water, approaching him. The sight of the snake filled his heart with strange bliss, rather than fear of the extraordinary beast.  As the cobra approached, Digambar stood up, folded his hands in Namaskar and bowed to Him. Once it was just a few feet away, Digambar prayed to it, ‘Oh Lord! Please don’t scare me this way. Please assume some less fearful form. Bless me, may my Sadguru shower His grace on me!’ Rising above the water, the cobra raised its hood higher and glanced at Digambar. Then, it splashed its mighty hood in the water and swam away. Fascinated, Digambar watched the snake swim away gracefully.

As the chantings for the final offerings at the altar began loudly, the scene before his eyes vanished. Digambar once again became aware of his surroundings and realised that his sadhana was still underway!

Digambar now realized that Sadguru Mama had specifically asked him to sit for Sadhana as Mama wanted him to experience the divine vision. Later in the evening, upon hearing Digambar’s experience, Sadguru Mama was immensely pleased. “Hey look what Digambar here got to see!” Mama exclaimed to some other disciples nearby. Immediately, in order to avoid the possibility of Digambar giving credit to Him for the serene experience, He also signalled Digambar to be quiet.

Many sadhaks have experienced miracles during Sadhana, in their dreams, or even in their daily lives. Invariably, whenever they would share those experiences with Sadguru Mama, He would always either praise the sadhak for the experience or give credit for it to His Sadguru or to the Lord Himself. Since He was very humble and shied away from fame, He would always discourage sadhaks from giving any credit to Him.

Heiteres Erlebnis während Sadhana

Read in English | Read in Sanskrit | Read in German

“Hey hört ihn mal an, was Digambar gesehen hat!” sagte Shree Mana einigen Sadhaks.
