Vibhavari and her family lived in Jaisinghpur, a small town in Kolhapur, a few miles away from Sangli in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.  Her husband, Mr. Prabhakar Kulkarni, was already in Sangli helping arrange an event for the Shree Gulawani Maharaj Foundation. Vibhavari and her two young children, Harish, age 11 and Ajit, age 5, were to follow soon. She had originally decided to set off for Sangli on the morning of the same day of the program, but fate had other plans for her. As she was leaving in the afternoon, her friend suggested they buy their annual grain stock together.  On a whim, she decided to follow her friend’s advice and visit a wholesale grocer with the friend in the afternoon, and then proceed to Sangli.

It was a Sunday afternoon and most of the shops were closed. One shop, however, had its doors open and the four ventured in. The shopkeeper suggested they come back on a working day so they decided to leave. The passage leading out of the shop was narrow and was lined with huge sacks full of grain on both sides.  The children, Ajit and Harish, scampered ahead and the ladies followed. As Ajit turned around a corner, there was a sudden thud of sacks toppling over. Vibhavari’s heart sank. She ran ahead, only to see that Ajit was completely trapped under several sacks which suddenly fell off the stack. There was no way that the 5-year-old could survive the blow of 6-7 sacks weighing at least 100 kgs (220 lbs) each!   

Vibhavari and Harish wailed and cried out loud for help but the shop was so deep inside the market, that there was no one around to hear them! The three of them could not even budge those heavy sacks. Fearing the worst, the helpless mother panicked. “Oh Mama!” she cried, “You simply have to bring my son back to life. Else I will refuse to believe that God exists. I will most certainly stop believing in You and in the powers of Your penance. If there is God in this world, please ask Him to help my son! Oh Mama, how can you let this happen to this small boy!”

Tears streaming down her face, she begged, pleaded and fought with Sadguru Mama and the goddess Ambabai, knowing fully well that only a miracle would save her son.

Soon, hearing their cries, even in that nearly deserted place, a crowd gathered outside. “A kid is trapped under the sacks, please help!” cried the friend. The assembled people soon pulled the sacks apart and brought Ajit to consciousness. The grateful mother was beginning to see the miracle. “They must be sent by God to help me” she thought. Ajit had a nasty wound on his forehead, and his nose was bleeding. He certainly needed to see a doctor but, unfortunately, most doctors’ offices were closed on Sundays.  Vibhavari rushed from one doctor’s office to another. Finally, she found one who was already dealing with another emergency case at that time. The father, Mr. Kulkarni, too rushed back to Sangli after hearing about the unfortunate incident.

Later in the evening, after Ajit’s wound was stitched up and he had rested in the afternoon, he was discharged from the hospital. After a few days, when Vibhavari asked Ajit as to how he was not hurt despite the weight of the sacks, the boy had an answer which left them all dumbstruck!  He saw a ray of light enter between the sacks and clear his nose so he could breathe easily and did not feel any pain. The only problem was, said Ajit, that he could not get out from under the fallen heap.

The friend could not believe her eyes and ears that a small child could survive this type of an unimaginable accident, but as sadhaks, the parents knew that it was only the grace of Sadguru Mama which had saved Ajit. Doubt gave way to strong faith. Vibhavari realized that God exists and that faith can literally move mountains. Sadguru always rushes to help sadhaks, all we need to do is pray with faith and sincerity.  Without His divine intervention, death was surely waiting for someone that day. No wonder then, that Vibhavari is eternally grateful to Sadguru Mama, the saviour of her son!

विभावरी हरीश: च सहाय्यार्थं उच्चै: आक्रोशं कृतवन्तौ , किन्तु तदापणं पण्यवीथ्यां अत्यन्तम् अन्त:स्थितम् आसीत् |  तत्र कोपि साहाय्यं कर्तुं तेषाम् आक्रोशं श्रोतुम् अपि च नासीत् | ते त्रयः तान् विशालान् स्यूतान् किञ्चित् अपि सारयितुं नाशक्नुवन् |  प्रियपुत्रस्य आकस्मिकीं भयावहां दुःस्थितिम् अवलोक्य अनिष्टभयेन सा आशङ्किता जाता | अरोदीत् सा “ अहो मामा ! मम पुत्राय जीवनं ददातु | कथमपि तस्य प्राणान् रक्षतु |  अन्यथा ईश्वरे मम विश्वास: न भवेत् | निश्चयेन इत: परं भवति अहं विश्वासं न करिष्यामि , भवत: सामर्थ्ये अपि | यदि कुत्रापि ईश्वर: अस्ति तर्हि कृपया तेन मम पुत्रस्य रक्षणं क्रियताम् | अहो मामा ! भवान् अस्माकं रक्षक: अस्ति तथापि कथं इदं घटितम् ?”  निरन्तरं रुदती सा मामामहाभागै: सह कलहम् अकरोत् , पुन: अनुक्षणं पुत्ररक्षणार्थं याचनां च अकरोत् | तया भगवती अम्बापि प्रार्थिता | सा जानाति स्म यत् भगवत्कृपया केनापि चमत्कारेण एव तस्य पुत्रः जीवितुं शक्नुयात् |

तेषां क्रन्दनं श्रुत्वा तस्मिन् एकान्ते अपि शीघ्रमेव जनसम्मर्द: समायात: | एक: लघु बालक: स्यूतराशे: अध: गृहीत: अस्ति , साहाय्यं कुर्वन्तु,  इति प्रार्थना तै: श्रुता | जना: शीघ्रं स्यूतान् अपसार्य बालकं उत्थाय तं सचेतनम् अकुर्वन् |

कृतज्ञा माता साक्षात् चमत्कारं अनुभवन्ती आसीत् | “एते जना: ईश्वरेण मम  साहाय्यार्थं प्रेषिता: स्यु: “ सा चिन्तितवती | अजितस्य ललाटे एक: व्रण: जात: आसीत्,  नासिकाया: च रक्तस्राव: आसीत् | वैद्यस्य सहाय्यं अत्यावश्यकम् आसीत्, तथापि तस्मिन् विरामदिने वैद्यानाम् अपि विराम: | विभावरी वैद्यातवैद्यं प्रति अधावत् | अन्तत: एक वैद्य: अधिगत: सोऽपि अन्यस्याम् आकस्मिकचिकित्सायां व्यस्त: आसीत् | श्री. कुलकर्णी , बालकस्य पिता अपि इमां वार्तां श्रुत्वा साङ्गलीत: झटिति आगत: | अनन्तरं अजितस्य उपचारादिकम् अभवत् | अपराह्णे विश्रामं कृत्वा सायंकाले स: चिकित्सालयत: गृहम् आगतवान् |

किञ्चिद्दिनानन्तरं विभावरी अजितं अपृच्छत् यत् कथं स: विशालानां स्यूतानां भारं सोढुमशक्नोत् ? कथम् आघातस्य प्रभाव: नाभवत् ?  अजितस्य उत्तरेण सर्वे विस्मिता: जाता: | अजित: दृष्टवान् यत् स्यूतराशित: एक: प्रकाशकिरण: आगत्य अनुक्षणं तस्य नासापुटौ मुक्तौ कृतवान् | स: सहजमेव श्वसितुं अशक्नोत् अपि तु भारस्य वेदना अपि गता |  केवलं स: स्यूतानाम् अधस्तात् स्वयमेव उत्थातुम् असमर्थ: आसीत् | 

तस्या: सख्याः कृते तु विश्वसितुम् अशक्या एषा घटना | नेत्राभ्यां दृष्ट्वापि सा संदेहयुक्ता एव , कथं एक: लघु बालक: एवं घोरात् अपघातात् अपि जीवितुं अशक्नोत् इति |   किन्तु मातापितरौ साधकौ आस्ताम् अत: तौ अजानीताम् यत् इयं तु केवलं सद्गुरुमामामहाभागानां कृपा एव , यया बालक: रक्षित: | सन्देहस्य स्थाने दृढ: विश्वास: उत्पन्न: | विभावर्या परमेश्वरस्य अस्तित्वं दृढतया अनुभूतं , विश्वासबलेन किमपि अशक्यं नास्ति इति तया ज्ञातम् | सद्गुरुमहाभागा: सदैव निजभक्तरक्षणार्थम् अनुधावन्ति, अस्माभि: श्रद्धया भावेन प्रार्थना करणीया इत्येव आवश्यकम् | दैवीकृपया विना  मृत्यु: तु सुनिश्चित: आसीत् | किम् आश्चर्यं यत् विभावरी तस्या: बालकस्य रक्षितॄन् मामामहाभागान् प्रति चिरं कृतज्ञा अभवत् |
