Prabhas Kshetra (also known as Prabhas Pattan or Somanath Pattan) is a small town located in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, a state in western India. Adorned by many holy sites, Prabhas Kshetra is a renowned place of pilgrimage for Hindus. Among its most prominent geographical features is the sacred Saraswati River. The river is said to flow mostly underground through the Indian subcontinent. It appears above ground level at Prabhas Kshetra before meeting the Arabian sea, thus adding to the importance of this holy place.
It was here, that a group of sadhaks, led by Sadguru Mama, had come to take a dip in the holy waters of the Saraswati river. Upon approaching the riverbank, they were shocked! What they believed to be a sacred, holy river was actually filthy, with an unbearably foul stench! The very thought of touching the water was repulsive. “Mama, surely we are not taking a dip in this water, are we?” Sadguru Mama smiled in his usual style and simply said, “It is sacred. Hence, a dip must be taken!” And to their horror, He proceeded to take a dip in the water.
It was then, the sadhaks got the surprise of their life. Suddenly, the stench disappeared and in its place was the pleasant fragrance of Ashtagandha – a fragrant material often used while performing holy rituals. They were even more bewildered when Mama came out of the water perfectly clean as if having bathed in the purest of waters! The fragrance of Ashtagandha lingered in the surroundings for quite some time, even after the sadhaks left the place!
Sadguru Mama had achieved the highest spiritual state. He saw the Lord in everything – be it in water from a sewer or pure water from the Ganga River.

प्रभासक्षेत्रं नाम ( अन्यत् नाम प्रभासपत्तनम् अथवा सोमनाथपत्तनम् ) भारतस्य पश्चिमदिशि स्थिते गुजरातराज्यस्य सौराष्ट्रभागे कश्चन लघुग्राम: | बहुभिः पावनस्थलैः सुशोभितम् इदं प्रभासक्षेत्रं हिन्दूनां कृते प्रसिद्धं तीर्थक्षेत्रमेव | अस्य भौगोलिकवैशिष्ट्येषु अन्यतमा अस्ति अत्र प्रवहन्ती सरस्वती नदी | समस्तभारतवर्षे लुप्तरूपेण प्रवहति इति यस्या: ख्याति सा सरस्वती अस्मिन् स्थले भूमौ प्रकट्य समुद्रमिलनात्पूर्वम् अत्र दृष्टिगोचरा भवति | अनेन अस्य क्षेत्रस्य माहात्म्यम् इतोऽपि वर्धते |
सरस्वत्या: पावने सलिले स्नातुं सद्गुरुमामामहाभागै: सह कतिपया: साधका: अत्र एकवारं आगता: | नदीतीरे समागत्य तत् स्थानं दृष्ट्वा ते दुःखिता: अभवन् | वस्तुत: तु सा पवित्रा नदी तथापि मलिना अदृश्यत| तत्र व्याप्त: दुर्गन्ध: तु सोढुमशक्य: आसीत् | जलस्पर्शं कर्तुम् अपि महती जुगुप्सा| “मामा, वयम् अस्मिन् जले तु स्नातुं न शक्ष्याम:|” मामामहाभागा: किञ्चित् स्मित्वा अब्रुवन् “ पवित्रमिदं तीर्थम्, अत्र स्नानं तु अवश्यं करणीयम् | ” इति उक्त्वा मामामहाभागा: स्नानार्थम् अगच्छन् , साधका: तु विस्मयेन पश्यन्त: तत्रैव अतिष्ठन् |
अल्पकालानन्तरमेव आश्चर्यं घटितम्| दुर्गन्धस्य स्थाने अष्टगन्धस्य पवित्रेण सुगन्धेन स: परिसर: व्याप्तोऽभवत् | ततोऽपि महदाश्चर्यं यत् कस्मिंश्चित् निर्मले पवित्रे जले स्नानेन यथा कोऽपि निर्मलः भवेत् तथा मामामहाभागा: निर्मलाः भूत्वा बहि: आगच्छन् | मामामहाभागानां स्पर्शस्य एवं प्रभाव: अभवत् यत् सर्वेषां गमनानन्तरम् अपि तत् क्षेत्रं बहुकालपर्यन्तं दिव्यगन्धेन आविष्टम् आसीत् | सद्गुरुमामामहाभागै: परमार्थस्य परमोच्चस्थितिः प्राप्ता आसीत् | मलिनजले वा उत गङ्गाजले वा ते सर्वत्र समदृष्ट्या भगवन्तम् एव अपश्यन् |
